Ross & Rachel // F.r.i.e.n.d.s
When the idea of our favourite TV couples was presented, I was thoroughly surprised that the on-off couple from Friends wasn’t the first request. Ross Geller (David Schwimmer) and Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston), part of arguably the most popular sitcom to have ever graced our homes, are the first couple I and so many others think of when this question arises. Yes, the mass of love for the two is certainly helped by the mass of love for the show itself, but Ross and Rachel are one of the main reasons why the show is so loved in the first place.
Now, I could ramble on about how they are loved for the way they feed off of each other, always giving back what the other gave; or the way there is so much that happens to them in all 10 seasons, and yet they always end up being okay; or the way that neither of them are ever too ‘loved-up’, and in fact are still just enough like friends that it is never uncomfortable to watch. But it isn’t about that. The world adores them because, as cheesy as it sounds, their love for each other is entirely believable. Right from the first episode, you can tell just how much Ross loves Rachel in his awkward way. Right from the first kiss, you can tell that Rachel feels it too, and not once does either character ever falter from that. However many bumps in the road there were (things like the infamous “break”), there was never any doubt of the way they felt for each other, which is why everybody wishes they had a Ross or a Rachel in their lives.
And let’s be honest, we all shed a tear when Rachel got off that plane, right?
