The Royal Opera House (ROH) has announced a COVID-safe festive season, formed of highlights from both The Royal Ballet and The Royal Opera.

Seventeen performances of Tchiakovsky’s The Nutcracker will be performed from Friday the 11th of December to Sunday the 3rd of January. This production of Peter Wright’s celebrated two-act ballet will feature a new battle scene between the Nutcracker and the Mouse King, choreographed by Will Tuckett. Tickets are available from Tuesday the 1st December and there will also be a The Nutcracker in Rehearsal video released on YouTube at 19:00 on the same day.

Alongside this production of Tchaikovsky’s seasonal favourite, there will also be four performances of a Christmas concert that will take place from Friday the 18th to Sunday the 20th of December. With music from Rossini’s La Cenerentola and Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, the concert will also feature extracts from Puccini’s La Bohème, Mozart’s The Magic Flute and Vaughan William’s Fantasia on Christmas Carols. Performances will feature the Royal Opera Chorus, Jette Parker Young Artists, and the Orchestra of the ROH.

Chief Executive of the ROH, Alex Beard, commented that “after such a challenging year, I am immensely proud to be unveiling this roster of uplifting Christmas highlights for the whole family.”
