A new study from Ebuyer has uncovered the top ten games where players are most likely to lose a life.

Compiled using social listening data over the past 12 months, the study found that games with a heavy online multiplayer presence were coming out on top, with only two games in the top ten not having an online multiplayer or battle royale mode. The game’s ranking on the list was based on how many social media posts used keywords associated with in-game deaths.

Topping the list was Fortnite, with over 173,000 posts making it the clear winner. Second place was Grand Theft Auto V with 40,701 posts, with Counter-Strike: Global Offensive placing third with 12,686 posts. Round out the top five was Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War with just over 11,000 posts each.

Speaking about the study, Ebuyer’s E-Commerce Director Andy Roberts said “No one likes losing a life mid-game and with new games constantly being launched, some deaths will help teach you how to gameplay, whilst others will be a learning experience, all of which will eventually lead to you improving your gaming abilities.”

The Top Ten in full are:

1: Fortnite – 173,793 posts

2: Grand Theft Auto V – 40,701

3: Counter-Strike: Global Offensive – 12,686

4: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare – 11,242

5: Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War – 11,106

6: The Last of Us Part II – 10,528

7: Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege – 6,946

8: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla – 4,665

9: Battlefield V – 3,485

10: Super Mario Maker 2 – 1,022
