Last week, it was announced that Catherine O’Hara and Kathryn Hahn have joined the cast of Seth Rogen’s new show for Apple TV+. They will both be in leading roles, and Rogen is also set to star.
Catherine O’Hara will be in her first starring TV role since the conclusion of Schitt’s Creek in 2020, where her portrayal of fading actress Moira Rose won her her first Primetime Emmy Award that year.
Kathryn Hahn made a prominent name for herself portraying Agatha Harkness in the MCU series Wandavision. She is also known for her role as Jen Barkley in Parks and Recreation, as well as supporting parts in a number of comedy films, including Step Brothers, Glass Onion and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.
The series, which has recently been reported to be titled The Studio, will be a half-hour comedy centred on “a legacy Hollywood movie studio trying to survive in a world where it is increasingly difficult for art and commerce to live together”.
Breaking Bad and Malcolm in the Middle star Bryan Cranston will feature in a supporting role. Ike Barinholtz (The Mindy Project), Chase Sui Wonders (Bodies Bodies Bodies), Keyla Monterroso Mejia(Abbott Elementary) and Dewayne Perkins (The Blackening) have also joined the cast.
This is Seth Rogen’s second collaboration with Apple TV+. He previously starred in and executive produced the series Platonic, which premiered in May 2023. Also, a frequent collaborator and longtime friend of Rogen, Evan Goldberg, is joining as co-writer and director. The pair have previously worked together on an impressive number of comedies: Superbad, Knocked Up, Pineapple Express and The Interview. Rogen and Goldberg’s production company, Point Grey Pictures, will also produce The Studio with Lionsgate Television.
It is not yet known when we can expect to see the comedy on our screens. The show was green-lit by Apple all the way back in 2020 and is currently in production, with filming beginning last month and expecting to wrap up this summer.
