Watchmen // Alan Moore

Watchmen by Alan Moore is certainly representative of a comic and graphic novel phase which I’m not sure has fully passed. Nowhere more so is the combination of great art and enticing narrative shown than in what is often considered to be the best graphic novel of all time. I like superhero stories and I like stories that are philosophical and original. Watchmen is a superhero story that simultaneously rips apart the whole idea of being a superhero. It proves that comics can explore grand and intellectual themes and can be a work of art in their own right and thus takes a proud place on my shelf.
