The first time I picked up the works of Kafka, I could feel my brain matter transforming into an otherworldly substance. I binge-read The Trial, Metamorphosis, and The Castle in one week, and it left an indelible impression on me. This impression can only be accessed during so-called Kafkaesque situations: the kind of inexplicable external events that one has no control over. It is no coincidence we have dedicated this term to him, as it is a sign of his genius that he created something that both did and did not exist. His stories are uniquely his; too strange to be true, yet they can be found everywhere in life.
