A Clockwork Orange // Anthony Burgess

a clockFinally, I would like to thank my Year 11 English teacher for lending me this book. I should probably give it back to him but it is such a beautiful addition to my bookcase. I must confess this was the most challenging book I have read to date, but definitely the most rewarding. Burgess creates for the reader an intricate sub-culture of youth violence represented by the ill-fated protagonist, Alex. Burgess’ use of future language (a mix of Russian and English slang) demonstrates that good pieces of literature can come in any shape or form, even utter nonsense, and this really compels me to do the same in my writing.
