Synopsis: After the events in New York with his fellow Avengers, Steve Rogers/Captain America lives in the nation’s capital as he tries to adjust to modern times. An attack on a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague throws Rogers into a web of intrigue that places the country. With the help of Black Widow and the Falcon, Rogers struggles to expose an ever-widening conspiracy, all while being obstructed by an unknown HYDRA agent, The Winter Soldier.

With the release of the final Captain America film; Civil War. It only makes sense that this movie monday would be on the film’s predecessor The Winter Soldier. I don’t think Captain America was anyone’s favourite Avenger before this film slid into the MCU continuity. But directors Anthony and Joe Russo manage to recreate the idea of the character by using incredibly realistic action sequences as well as a morally challenging story to ground the character in today’s real world. The writers McFeely and Markus carefully add depth to the characters in the film which then reverberate into the rest of the Marvel universe in a way that makes much more sense to an average viewer. The atmosphere manifested in the film by the filmmakers is well realised and lends itself well to the characters and it’s story. The Winter Soldier is currently the most critically acclaimed film in the Marvel franchise, as well as the most liked in the universe by fans of the genre and there’s good reason for it too. It’s not just a superhero popcorn flick, it’s a study in how to create a solid action film with sequences and set pieces that aren’t just stimulating and assembled nicely, but matter.

Watch If You Liked: (any Marvel films duh), The Raid

Rating: 9/10 – If you haven’t already I implore you to see this film, even if you’re not into these blockbuster films like Mad Max Fury Road, The Winter Soldier is educating for any filmmaker.
