*Sigh,* it’s September. After weeks of freedom, School/College/University is once again beckoning us to return to the mind-numbing realms of education – but don’t fret. There are a ton of brilliant releases heading your way on DVD and Blu-Ray too! This month has everything from adrenaline-fuelled car chases to Hulk-busting fight scenes and Aca-awesome riff-offs!

Fast and Furious 7

Furious 7 is a rare film for a number of reasons, but being the seventh film in a franchise is perhaps the most remarkable. This instalment of the series follows Brian (Paul Walker), Dominic (Vin Diesel) and the rest of their team as they try to return to a semblance of normality after the events of Fast & Furious 6. Brian is focused on the family he now has with wife Mia (Jordana Brewster), while Dom helps Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) regain her lost memories and identity. The threat of Owen Shaw (Luke Evans) may be in the past, but his brother Deckard (Jason Statham) has plans to destroy their future. Statham’s villain makes a very bold (and explosive) entrance to the film and responsible for a number of devastating team deaths. It is this one man revenge mission that forms the backbone of the film. With their government contact incapacitated, the team find themselves joining forces with ‘Mr Nobody’, (Kurt Russell) the leader of a black ops team who seek a very special computer program – The God’s Eye – which will allow them to track anyone in the world.

The plot is fairly simple – bad guy appears, join up with people to find device to track bad guy, get the device, track bad guy, fight and ultimately win. But because of this, the film is able to focus on other things – such as their character development and the dramatic sequences set against some stunning landscapes – all leading up to a final confrontation between Deckard and Dominic that has to be seen to be believed. The film also serves as an obvious, yet poignant farewell to Paul Walker/Brian O’Connor. How the franchise will continue without Walker remains to be seen. Fast 8 is due to be released in April 2017, so there is apparently more story to tell. Whether or not it will live up to this film – which is currently the most successful of the franchise and the fifth highest grossing film of all time – is another question entirely.
