Arrow Video has long provided cinephiles the opportunity to purchase physical copies of many cult films. They’re now moving into the streaming arena with the recently announced Arrow Player.
While Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney+ perhaps have a more wide ranging appeal, Arrow Player will likely find a place among those who prefer to use BFI Player and MUBI as their service of choice.
Many films already released by Arrow on DVD and Blu-ray will be available on Arrow Player, such as Donnie Darko, Oldboy, Deep Red and Heathers. There will also be an opportunity for cinephiles to feast on art house films including the works of Lars Von Trier, and classic films including The Bicycle Thieves and Cinema Paradiso. Horror fans are sure to feast on the platforms’ content, with Arrow Player offering the original Ring films, Dark Water and the Hellraiser trilogy among a host of other recognisable titles.
Arrow Player will also offer supplementary material often found on their blu-ray releases including behind the scenes material and interviews with cast and crew. The pricing of the new platform currently sits at £4.99 for a monthly subscription or £49.99 for a yearly subscription, with a trial period of 30 days for new customers.
With a slew of streaming services already available in the UK, this new platform could fall under the radar somewhat and it will likely have to compete with BFI Player and MUBI with some titles available on those platforms already. In spite of this, it is refreshing to have access to an array of cult titles that offer an escape from the plethora of franchise films dominating the mainstream.
