The producers of Mamma Mia! have announced that the hit musical will be returning for an outdoor performance run this summer.

Harewood House in Leeds will accommodate a 23-show run of Mamma Mia! for its first ever outdoor performances, with a special NHS and key worker show on the 12 August. This will be followed by a general run lasting until 30 August.

The show will allow up to 1800 spectators at any one time. The performances can take place regardless of whether the UK has reached “stage three” or “stage four” of the government’s road map out of lockdown.

Sara Poyzer will lead the cast as Donna Sheridan. She is set to be accompanied by Nicky Swift as Rosie, and Helen Anker as Tanya.

Joining Donna and her Dynamos is Richard Standing as Sam, Daniel Crowder as Harry Bright, and Jamie Kenna as Bill. Further casting is yet to be announced.

Creator and producer of Mamma Mia!, Judy Craymer, said “it’s going to be wonderful to experience the original musical literally under the stars in the beautiful grounds of Harewood House. Mamma Mia! lends itself perfectly to the outdoors and what better way to leave lockdown than to be transported to our sunny Greek idyll.”

Set on the fictional island of Kalorkairi, Mamma Mia follows Sophie Sheridan in the run up to her wedding and hunt for her biological father. The production features a soundtrack consisting of ABBA classics, and was adapted into a 2008 film starring Meryl Streep.
