Despite the four year hiatus, Temper Trap pleased the sold out Manchester Academy performing an array of tracks from over seven years of creating music.
Opening the enduring set with ‘Thick as Thieves’ from their latest album with the same title, lead singer Dougy Mandagi’s unique sound carried through the techno pop beats of the track had the dedicated fans grooving along. The Temper Trap did not forget to include the tracks that gave them their worldwide fame, continuing the set with ‘Love Lost’ which woke up the rest of the crowd who were move favourable of the older works.
It wasn’t until midway through the galvanising set that the band had to take a break as Mandagi’s voice began to break halfway through performing ‘Rabbit Hole’. Nevertheless, Mandagi blessed the audience proclaiming ‘I love you Manchester’ which brought a roar of applause flooding through the venue.
Powering through the set playing tracks such as ‘Resurrection’, ‘Alive’ and ‘Drum Song’ it was clear that a rest was needed for the band as they left the stage. It only took the band a few moments to realise they had started something that was simply too exciting to finish so soon. Walking back on stage The Temper Trap performed a three song encore, ending the set with the obvious choice of critically acclaimed ‘Sweet Disposition’ (yes that song from 500 Days of Summer). Shockingly beautifully performed despite Mandagi’s cold, the track had every member of the audience jumping around and waving their arms in the air. Mandagi even went as far to jump into the crowd and waiting in the crowd to thank fans for turning up to watch the band perform. A band that, despite the lead singer having a bad case of a winter cold, shook Manchester Academy with its electric performance.
