Sultans of Swing // Dire Straits

I associate this song very strongly with victory. It features endlessly on the CD mixes of my debating coach, and is played relentlessly in the event of a spectacular success. Given that, you’d be surprised I’ve heard it enough to even remember the lyrics… Dire Straits have an affinity for rather excellent guitar solos, of which this track is not bereft. See also: Brothers In Arms, Money For Nothing, Twisting By the Pool and most of their other songs for similar displays. After a good few iTunes plays, I’m still not exactly sure what it’s about. But I’ve not heard anyone say the words ‘honkey-tonk’ in such a cool way since.
