Where Did You Sleep Last Night? // Nirvana

Listening to Nirvana for the first time undoubtedly changed my entire perception of music. I had no idea where my music taste was going at the time so to finally discover a band that I should have discovered years before was a really important thing to happen to me. Any song written by the magical and awe-inspiring Kurt Cobain could have gone on my list, but weirdly, I’ve chosen a song that doesn’t even belong to them. In fact, ‘Where Did You Sleep Last Night?’ is an American folk song with an anonymous writer, but I think after Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged performance of it, most would be happy for them to claim ownership.

The death of Kurt Cobain wasn’t even something I lived to hear about when it initially happened, yet it’s a fact that I, and indeed many others, have never really come to terms with. It’s because of this that I have to include this band on my list, as the impact they’ve had on me can’t be disregarded, and their music, especially this song, will stick with me forever.
