The Curve Theatre in Leicester has announced an educational initiative to support children being home schooled in the latest national lockdown, called Curve Classroom.

Free sessions will be available online every weekday from 4pm, available on Curve’s YouTube channel and website. These educational resources will be lead by a range of artists, including performers Molly Lynch, Garry Robson, and Hareet Deol, and designers Grace Smart and Kate Unwin. Directors Tinuke Craig and Julia Thomas, choreographers Kesha Raithatha, Lee Proud and Mel Knott, writer Jess Green and composer Tasha Taylor Johnson are also involved in the initiative.

Curve Classroom will cover a wide variety of subjects, including English language and literature, analytical thinking, vocal exercises, character work and choreography workshops, puppetry, disability awareness and LGBTQ+ history.

In line with the Leicester theatre‘s dedication to lifelong learning, the resources provided will cater to both children to adults. The initiative hopes to extend beyond the classroom and provide more insight into the creative industries.

Chris Stafford and Nikolai Foster, Curve’s chief executive and artistic director, said, “throughout the pandemic we’ve tried to respond positively and contribute meaningfully to the lives of our communities and audiences. Now, as our theatre continues to work online, we’re launching Curve Classroom.

“We sincerely hope these daily sessions will help support learning and the incredible work being done by teachers, parents and carers while offering young people an insight into the creative industries and the incredible wealth of talent and resources we have to offer.”
