Name: Muncie Girls
Hometown: Exeter
Listen to: Gone With the Wind, Respect
Exeter punk rock trio Muncie Girls are set for big things this year. The band, consisting of singer and bassist Lande, guitarist Dean, and drummer Luke, plays upbeat songs with themes including sexism, misogyny, and feeling isolated from society.
With a sound reminiscent of Sleater Kinney and Kenickie, debut album From Caplan to Belsize is one of the most important records of the year. Their songs hit hard, the adrenaline rush of ‘Gone With the Wind’ discusses social anxiety: “You can find me under the table I’m not coming out”. ‘Respect’ highlights the dangers of sexism and a culture that overlooks this, as Lande sings: “It’s started again, another girl has lost her energy / It’s so easy to pretend this doesn’t happen in our society.” The delivery is brutally honest, while the songwriting is strong with some infectious riffs.

The catchiness is evident across the rest of the album; with thought provoking and insightful lyrics that make you sit up and take notice. The band are currently on a tour to support the album’s release featuring bands such as Colour Me Wednesday and Doe, so catch them before they rise to superstardom.
