Hometown: London

Download: ‘Highway’ ‘Diamonds’

Taking us on a psych-trip back to the mid 60s, London outfit Lola Colt have slipped under many radars so far in 2015. Their complete gem of a debut record, Away From The Water, released late last year holds many jewels to their crown. The dark, moody bassline and vintage guitar strokes on ‘Highway’ produce an intense atmospheric experience that transports you to Western-America for a short period as you witness a stand-off in your ears. The band have cited film soundtracks as an influence in the past and you can hear that throughout their musical portfolio as you imagine each track as its own composition.

Other highlights from the debut record include the mysterious, county & western toned ‘Moonlight’ with it’s rip roaring psych-riffage, as well as the sheer vocal power of ‘Vacant Hearts’ with its beautiful acoustic tinged background, flowing into mystical keyboard synths and consistent psychedelic noise.

‘Diamonds’ – which doesn’t feature on the record itself but is available as a single – also offers up a captivating and inviting sound build. Starting with low-key drum rhythms, the track builds momentum as the psychedelic undertone comes alive before the guitars fizz out intensely to a noisy finale.

Overall Lola Colt’s fresh western-psych vibe gives your ears an open invitation they simply can’t refuse. There’s hooks right through the record and something for psych fans of all varieties with darkness a consistent theme. Ringing guitar fuzz and intense vocal power are key characteristics to a huge sound that is just longing to be heard by the masses.
