Introducing: Drug Store Romeos

Hometown: Hampshire

Listen to: ‘Frame of Reference’, ‘Quotations for Locations’, ‘Now You’re Moving’

Much of the UK has been plunged into a second lockdown and the days are only getting shorter and colder. So finding music that sounds just like the distant dream that is a summertime festival is exactly what we need. Enter the alternative/indie band from Hampshire: Drug Store Romeos. I really wish I could find an explanation for that incredible name.

The three-piece from Fleet is as memorable as their moniker, marrying soft vocals with striking melodies and lyrics to create a sound that the band themselves describe as being “70s keyboards, topped with rhythmic drums and driving melodic bass lines.” Lead singer Sarah’s vocals are strong yet soft, and in combination with their layered production they create that otherwise indescribable ‘floaty’ sound the band have aimed to achieve.

Their 2019 debut single ‘Now You’re Moving’ was a hypnotic introduction to the trio’s immersive production style, and their latest release Frame of Reference feels nostalgic, hopeful and celebratory all at once. In three songs, Drug Store Romeos have proved they’re more than just a 2020 update of Alvvays during their Antisocialites album. Creating ethereal music that draws inspiration from multiple decades and genres, it’s hard to pinpoint their exact sound. It’s exciting to see where they will take their sound next.

Keep an eye out for a new single that they promise to be releasing the next few days. There’s no album on the radar (yet), but you’ll be sure to have their three singles on repeat until it drops.
