BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH CONFIRMED AS DOCTOR STRANGE

Doctor-Strange

After months of speculation, Marvel have finally confirmed that Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch is signed on to play the ‘Sorcerer Supreme’ in his 2016 debut film outing. Beating other names like Ewan McGregor and Joaquin Phoenix to the role, Cumberbatch’s casting as Dr. Stephen Strange – a neurosurgeon who after a horrific car accident, forays into magic –  has certainly sparked a lot of furor amongst fans of both the actor and the comics, respectively. Marvel head honcho, Kevin Feige however, believes that Cumberbatch is the perfect choice; “Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character.” Though the rest of the cast is yet to be announced, filming is scheduled to begin in May 2015 with the final product, directed by Scott Derrickson (Sinister), hitting screens in November 2016.

TERMINATOR: GENISYS TRAILER REVEALED

When Arnold Schwarzenegger says he’ll ‘be back‘, he means it. Game of Thrones/Thor: The Dark World director, Alan Taylor has taken the helm of Genisys – the fifth instalment in the Terminator series – and if this new trailer is anything to go by, we are all in for one hell of a ride. Set in 2029, a battle-scarred John Connor (played this time by Dawn of the Planet of the Apes star, Jason Clarke) is on the verge of winning the war against Skynet. However, after learning of their plot to attack him in both the future and the past, he sends Jai Courtney’s trusted lieutenant, Kyle Reese, back in time to save his Mother, Sarah (GoT‘s Mother of Dragons, Emilia Clarke) and secure their existence. Also starring former Doctor Who, Matt Smith and Dayo Okeniyi, this latest sci-fi flick is set to be released in July 2015.

SUICIDE SQUAD CAST ANNOUNCED BY WARNER BROS.

One of the biggest pieces of news that’s dropped this week is Warner Bros. announcement of the Suicide Squad cast. Initially the film world knew Warner Bros. and DC were aiming high when they released news they were targeting stars like Ryan Gosling and Tom Hardy. I don’t think any of us knew they actually would get them. Last year’s Oscar Winner Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club) is playing the latest iteration of The Joker, Will Smith (I Am Legend) is playing Deadshot, Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises,Inception) as Rick Flag, model Cara Delevingne as Echantress and Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang. – yes that’s a real character and finally Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street) as Harley Quinn. Suicide Squad is about a team of villains who are forced by the government to go on covert missions. It’s being directed by David Ayer (Fury,Training Day) and is being released August 2016.

THE HOBBIT: THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES UK PREMIERE

The stars of Middle-Earth descended upon the green carpet in Leicester Square for #OneLastTime this week, at the World Premiere for the final segment of Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy, The Battle of The Five Armies. Among the tearfully excited Tolkien fans, were actors Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Lee Pace and Benedict Cumberbatch, as well as the director himself. Dispelling rumours that he would breathe cinematic life into another work of Tolkien’s – The Silmarillion – Jackson has proclaimed that this is to be his final directorial foray into the realms of Hobbits, Dwarves and Elves. Also starring Orlando Bloom, Evangeline Lilly and Stephen Fry, The Battle of the Five Armies is set to be released in cinemas on December 12th.
