Hushabye Mountain

The Hope Mill Theatre in Manchester are collaborating with stream.theatre for an online production of Jonathan Harvey’s Hushabye Mountain.

Directed by Nick Bagnall, the new show features Matt Henry as Lee, Jodie Prenger as Beryl, and Layton Williams as Connor. Also included in the cast are Nathan McMullen as Danny, Amy Dunn as Lana, and Harrison Scott-Smith as Ben.

Hope Mill will partner with The Turbine Theatre, Sheffield Crucible, Liverpool Everyman, and York Theatre Royal to showcase the production across its run.

Following its live-streamed performance on 5 June 2021, it will be available to watch on-demand from 11-13 and 18-20 June. The show will also be streamed in the theatre for audiences to watch at the venue for a gala and Q&A night on 12 June.

Originally performed in 1999, Hushabye Mountain explores a world that’s learned to live with AIDS. It follows a young man Danny as he waits to be let into heaven, struggling with the prospect of his death.

Writer Jonathan Harvey said “as we move through this current pandemic, I am reminded of a different pandemic, and the time when combination therapies started being trialled and seemed to work for people with HIV. The play is about a group of friends in that moment of time, coping with the shifting landscape. We’ve got a top cast and I can’t wait for new audiences to discover this piece.

Tickets are on sale and available from Hope Mill, partner venue websites, and stream.theatre.
