Everybody’s favourite worst family are set to return for another round of backstabbing and debauchery, as HBO announce that Succession has been renewed for a fourth season. The show, which follows the uber-wealthy, Murdoch-esque Roy family, is currently in its third season following a two-year break due to filming disruption caused by COVID-19.

Details about the newly-announced season are still under wraps, and at present no release date has been revealed. However, seasons one and two were released almost exactly a year apart, which may suggest a late 2022 release for the fourth instalment of the show.

With over half of season three still to be released, it’s difficult to guess what a future season might bring in terms of its plot. Whilst season one focused around the Roy siblings vying for power after their ageing father’s, patriarch Logan Roy’s (Brian Cox), refusal to step down as CEO, season two saw fresh drama when Waystar’s cruise division came under scrutiny for covering up grisly historic wrongdoings. In its season finale, golden boy Kendall Roy (Jeremy Strong) very publicly ambushed his father when he accused him of being a “malignant presence” in the company during a press conference.

So far, season three has dealt with the fallout from Kendall’s stunt, as he tries to get his siblings on board to take down their father but, of course, a lot could change between now and the start of a future season. With the very premise of the show being the characters’ willingness to betray each other for their own gain, it remains to be seen who’ll come out on top.
