The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed cast members Hayden Christensen and Rosario Dawson are returning to play Anakin Skywalker and his Jedi Padawan, Ahsoka Tano.

Dawson created excitement amongst fans when she teased Christensen’s return as Anakin Skywalker through Instagram with an image of the duo, captioned ‘Skyguy,… They know!!! See you soon, Snips.’ Those familiar with the franchise will know that ‘Skyguy’ is Ahsoka’s nickname for her master, Anakin, with ‘Snips being the nickname given for Padawan Ahsoka in Clone Wars. Many did not expect the surprise news of Christensen joining Dawson in the series.

Ahsoka was first introduced in the 2008 animated series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, where a close bond was formed with Master Anakin Skywalker. She was seen most recently as a live-action character in the 2019 series The Mandalorian (a series set after the defeat and fall of the Galactic Empire). Rosario Dawson played the character as powerful and strong-minded, leaving fans begging for Ahsoka to receive her own individual series.

Hayden Christensen has recently also been confirmed to return to reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader in the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series (also starring Ewan McGregor) yet we remain unsure of which character form Christensen will appear as. Prior to the events of the prequels, where Skywalker becomes corrupt by dark forces causing him to rebel against Jedi forces and join the Sith, Anakin was Ahsoka’s master.

The series is set 5 years after Return of The Jedi, therefore Christensen is expected to appear in the form of flashbacks or a ‘force ghost,’ a technique used in multiple earlier franchise productions. Regardless, Christensen is sure to be welcomed back with open arms. Anakin Skywalker is regarded as one of the franchise’s best characters, with Christensen’s last franchise appearance being the 2005 prequel Episode III: Revenge of The Sith. Anakin, arguably, has one of the best villain origin/downfall stories to exist in cinema.

Disney+’s Ahsoka will begin production in early 2022 and a release date for the mini-series is not yet set.
