Universal Pictures have released the official trailer for the upcoming new installment in the Halloween franchise, Halloween Kills.

Halloween Kills is a sequel to 2018’s Halloween, which itself is a direct follow-up to John Carpenter’s 1978 original.

After the financially successful 2018 film, which ignores all the other films in the Halloween franchise asides the original, Universal and Blumhouse Productions soon confirmed that two direct sequels would follow. Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends will be released back-to-back within a year of each other. This latest installment was originally intended for a 16 October 2020 release, but has been delayed due to the pandemic.

Director David Gordon Green returns for the sequel, having directed the 2018 entry. Also returning is Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode, along with Judy Greer, Andi Matichak, and Will Patton. A number of other side characters within the Halloween universe are also set to make a comeback, and eagle-eyed fans of the series will soon be able to discover who once the new film hits cinemas.

Halloween Kills will follow the Strode family as they continue to try and defeat the masked killer Michael Myers, who survived being imprisoned in Laurie’s burning basement at the end of the previous film. The Strode family must find a new way of finally ending the relentless evil that has tormented them for decades.

From what we can see in this official trailer, Myers will certainly pack a punch with his signature knife and brute strength, with even more grisly and brutal kills throughout his rampage a certainty. The Strode family will need more than just their wits and power to stop the shape of terror.

Michael Myers has cemented himself as a horror icon ever since the release of the original Halloween back in 1978. John Carpenter has described the character as “almost a supernatural force” and a presence that is “unkillable.” Halloween Kills looks to showcase the true malevolence of Michael’s terror in this hotly-anticipated continuation.

Thankfully, those who wish to experience the masked killer’s terrifying return and Laurie Strode’s battle against the presence of evil will have the chance in cinemas this Halloween.

Halloween Kills is set to be released 15 October.
