In an exciting development for fans of Sherlock Holmes, Guy Ritchie is set to direct a new series titled Young Sherlock for Prime Video. The series will star Hero Fiennes Tiffin in the titular role, bringing a fresh, youthful perspective to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s iconic detective.

The series marks a reunion between Ritchie and Fiennes Tiffin, who recently collaborated on Ritchie’s action film The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Ritchie’s return to the Sherlock universe is also noteworthy, having previously directed two successful Sherlock Holmes films starring notable actor Robert Downey Jr.

Inspired by Andy Lane’s critically acclaimed Young Sherlock Holmes novels, the eight-episode series promises to be an “explosive” origin story. According to the official synopsis, the story will follow a 19-year-old Sherlock Holmes grappling with disgrace and raw talent. “Sherlock Holmes is disgraced, raw, unfiltered, and unformed when he is caught up in a murder mystery at Oxford University which threatens his freedom,” it reads. “Diving into his first-ever case with a wild lack of discipline, Sherlock manages to unravel a globe-trotting conspiracy that will change his life forever.”

“In Young Sherlock, we’re going to see an exhilarating new version of the detective everyone thinks they know in a way they’ve never imagined before,” Ritchie noted in a press statement. “We’re going to crack open this enigmatic character, find out what makes him tick, and learn how he becomes the genius we all love.”

Matthew Parkhill, known for his work on Deep State and Rogue, will write and serve as the showrunner. He is also executive producing alongside Guy Ritchie, Simon Kelton, Ivan Atkinson, Simon Maxwell, Dhana Gilbert, Colin Wilson, and Marc Resteghini. Harriet Creelman will co-executive produce the series.

Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios, also expressed his enthusiasm for the project. “This exciting new chapter about one of the world’s best-known literary characters will delight our global customers with its captivating storytelling. […] We will explore untold mysteries of how young Sherlock found his way to a life of truth-seeking.”

The show is set to premiere exclusively on Prime Video, reaching audiences in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. While a release date has not yet been announced, anticipation is already building for what promises to be an action-packed and innovative take on Sherlock Holmes’ early years.

For fans of the detective genre and Guy Ritchie’s distinctive directorial style, the forthcoming show will be a thrilling addition to the evolving world of Sherlock Holmes adaptations.
