Who is the Greatest Living Rockstar on the Planet?

Dave Grohl

Listing the greatest rockstars is easy: Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Elvis Presley, John Lennon; they’re all considered to be one of the greats – maybe even “the” great. They are undeniably classic examples, but it’s hard to place one of them as the greatest living rockstar when they’re all dead. So, if what people look for in a great rockstar is that classic “rockstar” aura, why would people look further than the man who’s been kicking ass at it his whole life?

Dave Grohl began his long and astounding career at just 17, lying about his young age to be a part of Scream and “see the world”. From there he went from strength to strength and, after being a massive part of Nirvana as the band’s slick drummer, he then went on to become the founder, frontman and guitarist for Foo Fighters. Now, I know that’s a well known fact but come on, Nirvana and Foo Fighters? I really shouldn’t have to give any more evidence than that.

Even if that isn’t convincing enough, Dave Grohl somehow manages to be a classic kind of rockstar, whilst at the same time being just about the nicest guy on the planet. I was lucky enough to see Foo Fighters live a few months ago and I can tell you, his big, cheesy grin never left his face. Not once. But at the same time, he managed to get the crowd going with such a raw vigour that I have never seen before. Grohl gave the crowd so much raw rock and roll energy that it flooded through the stadium and could reportedly be heard miles away. He spoke to us all, fed off his band and genuinely looked like he was having the best night of his life; it was so obvious that performing great rock songs to a great crowd is all he has ever wanted to do.

Dave Grohl is someone who inspires a love of music in everyone, from his infectious smile to the pure talent he plays music with, and he manages to do it while playing rock to a standard that has never fallen below sensational. With the amount of bands under his belt that he has, the merits are all there too. Really, Dave Grohl is the greatest rockstar of all time, maybe both living or dead.
