The winners of the 2023 BAFTA Games Awards have been announced. Celebrating the best games of the past 12 months, with 18 awards up for grabs dozens of games were competing for top honours.

Leading this year’s nominees list was God of War Ragnarök with a record-breaking 15 nominations, of which it won six awards including the fan-voted EE Game of the Year and both Performance in a Leading Role for Christopher Judge and Performance in a Supporting Role for Laya Deleon Hayes. Meanwhile, Vampire Survivors was named Best Game and also took home Best Game design.

Also among the winners at the ceremony, hosted by Frankie Ward alongside Julia Hardy and Inel Tomlinson on Twitch, were Tunic, which won the awards for Debut Game and Artistic Achievement, RollerDrome, which was named Best British Game, and Endling – Extinction is Forever, which won the Game Beyond Entertainment Award.

Receiving this year’s BAFTA Fellowship was Shuhei Yoshida. Ever since joining Sony in 1986, Yoshida has been one of the key figures at PlayStation since 1993, even serving as the President of SIE Worldwide Studios from 2008 to 2019, when he stepped down to focus on helping nurture independent creators.

Accepting the Fellowship, Mr Yoshida said it was an “incredible honour and very humbling” to be honoured with the accolade. He also paid tribute to the various studios he has worked with during his career and encouraged the next generation of developers to continue their work as they look forward to the future of the gaming industry.
