The Last of Us: Part II has been named Game of the Year at the 2020 Game Awards.
Hosted by Geoff Keighley and Sydnee Goodman of IGN, the awards used an audience free format this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. With stages in Los Angeles, Tokyo and London, the show included appearances from Gal Gadot, Nolan North, Troy Baker, Reggie Fils-Aime, Tom Holland and Brie Larson.
This year’s most-nominated game, The Last of Us Part II, took home seven awards on the night including Best Performance for Laura Bailey, Best Narrative and Innovation in Accessibility. Also among the winners were Among Us, Hades and Tell Me Why.
Prior to the show, it was announced that Ghost of Tsushima had won the Player’s Voice Award, beating out 29 other games for the prize on the online fan vote. The samurai epic also took home the award for Best Art Direction.
The Game Awards also played host to a number of reveals and first looks, including the newest addition to the Smash Bros roster – Final Fantasy VII’s Sephiroth – the new Airship map coming to Among Us, the latest from Devolver Digital – Loop Hero – and announcements from new and upcoming games including The Callisto Protocol, Perfect Dark and Open Roads.
