Mojang announced the game will be available this month.

Minecraft will be available to buy on the Wii U this month, according to the game’s creators. 4J Studios, who were behind the Xbox 360 version of the game, will be handling production of the Wii U port. Among the features for this edition will be the ability to utilise the Gamepad for off-TV play.

Along with the release – which will only be available as a digital download through Nintendo’s eShop – will come six add-on content packs, including some festive themed content. An addition 16 packs, featuring content from Doctor Who, Skyrim, The Simpsons and Star Wars will be available for users to purchase on the eShop when the game launches. No physical release has been announced for the console.

Minecraft: Wii U Edition will be available on Wii U from December 17.
