The Metal Gear Solid creator will receive the accolade at the D.I.C.E Awards next month.

The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences announced today (January 5) that Hideo Kojima will be the 21st inductee to their Hall of Fame.

In a statement, AIAS President Martin Rae said “Hideo Kojima’s career-defining works have shaped much of how the video game industry approaches cinematic storytelling and player engagement. As one of the most well-loved and well-respected designers of our time, it is a great honour for the Academy to induct him into our Hall of Fame. Hideo is a game creator whose eyes have always looked towards the future, and we look forward to his thoughts on the D.I.C.E Summit stage.”

At the ceremony next month, Kojima will be presented the award by film maker Guillermo del Toro. Del Toro had been due to collaborate with Kojima on Silent Hills before the project was cancelled by Konami. Kojima left the studio in December after coming to the end of his contract. Since then, he has formed his own production studio – Kojima Productions – and is now working with Sony on a new game for PlayStation 4 and PC.
