The popular racing franchise will make it’s way to PlayStation 4 with a 2016 beta.

Polyphony Digital have announced details of the upcoming Gran Turismo Sport at Sony’s Paris Games Show conference, with producer Kazunori Yamauchi taking to the stage to unveil the game.

The new title – which will be a standalone rather than part of the main-numbered series – will see players take part in online and offline challenges against other players around the world. Across three different game modes – Campaign, Sports and Arcade – players will get the chance to sue cars from a range of manufacturers, including Audi, Mazda, AMG Mercedes and Alfa Romeo.

Players will also have two new championship events to play simultaneously throughout the year, thanks to the game makers’ partnership with motor racings governing body the FIA. The Nations Cup will see players race to represent their country while the Manufacturers Cup will allow players to race for their favourite car manufacturer. With both of these events, the overall winners in each will be honoured at the FIA’s annual prize giving ceremony in Paris.

Yamauchi also confirmed the title would be compatible with the upcoming PlayStation VR system, giving racers the chance to fully immerse themselves in the game.

Gran Turismo Sport will hold a public open beta on PlayStation 4 in Spring 2016. Watch the launch trailer below.
