Bob Fosse’s musical Chicago is making its return to the stage for a new 2024/25 tour across the UK and Ireland, starting at the Milton Keynes Theatre from 12 October.

Chicago is set in the 1920’s and tells the story of Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who kills her lover after he tries to walk out on her. After being sent to the Cook County Jail, she tricks the public with false news stories and media exploitation to avoid conviction.

‘Razzle Dazzle’, ‘Cell Block Tango’, and ‘All That Jazz’ are just a few of the tunes included in the musical, which features a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb. It has won six Tony Awards, two Olivier Awards and a Grammy, and is the longest running American musical in Broadway and West End history.

Chicago debuted in 1975, based on a 1926 play with the same title, and the musical was later revived on Broadway in 1996. It starred Ann Reinking, who also choreographed the production in the style of Bob Fosse, and was directed by Walter Bobbie.

The new tour is set to visit over 30 cities across the UK, including Newcastle, Manchester, Liverpool, and Edinburgh, before finishing off the tour in August 2025 in Glasgow. The casting of the production is still to be announced.
