Those waiting for a first look at the upcoming Uncharted film adaptation got their wish thanks to the film’s star and his video game counterpart.
Set for release in July 2021, Uncharted will be a prequel to the critically acclaimed PlayStation series following a young Nathan Drake (Tom Holland) as he starts out on his journey to becoming a fortune hunter with his mentor Victor “Sully” Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg). Grey’s Anatomy star Sophia Ali will be joining the pair as fellow explorer Chloe Frazer.
While Holland is stepping into the shoes of the younger Drake, the first look at the production came from the actor who played Nathan Drake in the video games, Nolan North, as he shared a series of pictures from production on his Twitter account, including one with Holland from a recent visit to set.
Following on from North’s post, Holland tweeted a picture of himself as Nathan Drake on set. A later post on his Instagram story also confirmed that the film is nearing the end of shooting, with Holland remarking that it was his “last two days of filming.”
The adaptation of Uncharted has been in development since 2008 following the release of the first game in the series Drake’s Fortune. The last game release to feature Nathan Drake was Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End in 2016, with spin-off The Lost Legacy being released in 2017 with Chloe Frazer as one of the protagonists.

Shooting for the film had been happening in both Germany and Spain, with production paused in March 2020 due to COVID-19 and for a short time in August when Antonio Banderas, who is appearing in an undisclosed role, tested positive for the virus.
Uncharted is currently set to be released on July 16, 2021.
