The fifth and final season of Amy Sherman-Palladino’s smash hit comedy-drama series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is set to begin airing on Amazon Prime Video on Friday 14 April. The show will commence with a three episode premiere before following the same weekly release pattern as season four, with the remaining six episodes of season five airing over the following six weeks. The series finale is set to air on 26 May.

Alongside the release date for the initial episodes of season five, Amazon released a short teaser clip featuring the star Rachel Brosnahan and a synopsis for the final season, which read as follows: “In the fifth and final season, Midge finds herself closer than ever to the success she’s dreamed of, only to discover that closer than ever is still so far away.”

The fifth season will feature the return of all the regular cast of Mrs. Maisel, with Rachel Brosnahan (Midge), Alex Borstein (Susie), Tony Shalhoub (Abe Maisel), Marin Hinkle (Rose Maisel), Michael Zegen (Joel Maisel), Kevin Pollak (Moishe Maisel), Caroline Aaron (Shirley Maisel) and Luke Kirby (Lenny Bruce) all set to star once again. Season five will also see season four’s new faces promoted to series regulars, with Reid Scott (who played talk show host Gordon Ford) to return as a regular in the upcoming season, alongside Kelly Bishop, Alfie Fuller and Jason Ralph. Milo Ventimiglia will also return to his role as the ‘Handsome Man’ from season four.

Following the announcement early last year of Mrs. Maisel ending with its fifth season, the creator Amy Sherman-Palladino stated to The Hollywood Reporter: “We always had a general endpoint in mind for the series. […] When it came down to five and out, we sat down and said, “OK now what do we do to make sure we stick the landing?” Because that’s the most important thing.”

Head of Amazon Studios Jennifer Salke said in a statement last February: “Amy, Dan (Palladino, Sherman-Palladino’s husband and creative partner) and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel have blazed an unparalleled path, elevating the stories we tell about women, challenging the norms in our industry and forever altering the entertainment landscape with their one-of-a-kind storytelling.”

Before its finale season this April, stream the first four seasons of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Amazon Prime Video.
