Console Two: The Original Xbox

Years of Production: 2001 – 2009, Final Game: Xiaolin Showdown

Entering into the battlefield of home gaming in the early 2000s was a big move by Microsoft. While it was a Herculean task to take the fight to the two gaming giants of that merciless arena, they did so with their star brawler known as the Xbox.

Boasting a whopper of a processor, a hard disc drive (a first for home consoles), an online network, and some big titles such as Halo: Combat Evolved, the console did indeed make an impact in a number of ways. Support for the system dried up much earlier in Europe than in North America, and the last new software title brought to it in the UK was Xiaolin Showdown, launched in June 2007.

Based on an animated television show of the same name, it was a fighting and “beat ’em up” type of game. The main objective? To outlive opponents by beating them up. Not unlike Super Smash Bros, there were also numerous playable characters, a range of different stages, and a multiplayer mode as well. The visual style is a colourful cell-shaded look and the package may appeal to fans of the show.

It’s not revolutionary and the high profile reviews weren’t glowing, but there’s bound to be some who enjoy this game. You can purchase it here.
