With the exciting announcement of legendary director Martin Scorsese’s latest film earlier this year. Fans and critics alike have been excitedly waiting for the release of the trailer for his latest film Silence.
Based on a novel by by Japanese author Shūsaku Endō, written in 1966, Silence follows two Portriogous priests, in the 17th century Francisco Garrpe played by Adam Driver who has been making a name for himself since starring as Kylo Ren in the latest Star Wars and losing 50 pounds for this role, alongside former Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield) playing Sebastião Rodrigues. The two set out to find their teacher Father Cristóvão Ferreira (Liam Neeson) who has denounced his faith, the pair are not only in shock but are fearful for his life. Set out to not only find him but spread their faith throughout the empire of Japan, endangering their lives.
The fast-paced trailer is striking with its use of cinematography, capturing dramatic landscapes, persecution of those who to join the Christian faith, as well as the danger of their journey. Ultimately leading to Sebastião Rodrigues (Garfield) questioning gods silence. It introduces the plot and the main cast excellently, leaving you questioning the outcome of their mission, eager for its Christmas release. Scorsese has been wanting to make the film since 1990, now producing what critics are saying will soon be an oscar award winning epic. The standout film in his career.
