Disney’s Pixar Animation Studios have confirmed the release dates of two highly anticipated sequels; the second installation of The Incredibles, and the fourth of the Toy Story films. Pixar are the minds behind the most successful animated films of the 21st century and, as such, these release dates come as exciting information for many. Toy Story 4 and The Incredibles 2 appear to have almost swapped release dates. Toy Story 4 has been pushed back on Pixar’s release schedule, whilst The Incredibles 2 has been moved forwards.

As it stands, Toy Story 4 is due to be released 21st June 2019, but its release has already been delayed twice before. Fortunately, the sequel is in good hands, being directed by John Lassetter, the director of the earlier Toy Story and Toy Story 2. On his feelings towards the sequel, he said:

“Toy Story 3 ended Woody and Buzz’s story with Andy so perfectly that for a long time, we never even talked about doing another Toy Story movie. But when Andrew, Pete, Lee and I came up with this new idea, I just could not stop thinking about it.”

From his comments, it is clear that Lassetter intends to do justice to Toy Story’s legacy. 2010’s Toy Story 3 was Pixar’s highest grossing film at the time, even beating the ever popular Finding Nemo. Could Toy Story 4 surpass this? A key plot marked for the film is a love story between Woody and Bo Peep.

Viewers won’t have to wait as long for The Incredibles 2, which is due to be released on 15th June 2018. We know that Brad Bird, the director of the original film, will be directing this sequel, but no other details have been revealed.

The end of The Incredibles saw the introduction of a new super villain threat, as the Parr family once again don their superhero costumes. It is entirely possible that the plot will pick up from where it left in 2004, but, at least for now, the story is being kept tightly under wraps. Fans have even been generating online theories about potential content. If nothing else is clear, it is evident that, by waiting almost 15 years to release a sequel to The Incredibles, Pixar have generated a serious amount of hype and interest.
