Festival Review: Zurich Openair

Thursday

On Thursday I woke up feeling terribly ill, the result of a flu mixed with the previous evening of fried foods and beer. I skipped all of the afternoon performances and hoped that by the evening I’d be able  to drag myself from my duvet and make it to Glattbrugg for Bastille. I ended up arriving a good 20 minutes before they set the stage and already giddy fans were yelling the intro to ‘Pompeii’. I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. While I had previously read reviews claiming that the band don’t really interact with their audience, I witnessed the exact opposite. The lead singer, Dan Smith, really made an effort to engage with fans and was one of the few musicians to pass the barrier, disappearing into the sea of people for an entire song.
