This week, a clip from HBO showcasing their upcoming programmes showed a brief glimpse of Succession season four.

The news comes after the Succession Instagram announced in late June that season four was officially in production, with the familiar directorial face of Mark Mylod behind the camera for the first episode.

The brief ten-second clip shows the fearsome patriarch Logan Roy (Brian Cox) giving one of his classically expletive-infused speeches, with Tom Wambsgans (Matthew Macfadyen) standing by his side. This clip establishes the new dynamics to be expected after the dramatic end of season three. Tom is now in a more powerful position than ever, and his place next to Logan in the clip suggests that season four will explore his character in new and potentially more menacing ways, as he faces off against his wife Shiv Roy (Sarah Snook) for the first time.

The clip also shows Greg Hirsch (Nicholas Braun) applauding Logan’s rousing speech. This also places Greg in an interesting position for this upcoming season, as he chose to side with Tom at the end of season three in his betrayal of the Roy siblings. Greg is seen in the clip with a maniacal grin, maybe alluding to a more actively evil role for him this season, as he gets closer to Logan. However, it cannot be forgotten that Greg still has ties to Kendall Roy (Jeremy Strong), and whilst the clip does not show the pair together, it might be expected that these two will confront each other by the end of Succession’s fourth season.

The brief clip also sees the familiar faces of the Roy siblings returning. The clip focuses on the dejected facial expressions of the four, suggesting that at least a part of the season will be focused on the group coming to terms with their father’s betrayal and their exclusion from the race to succeed him.

There is no news yet as to when fans might expect Succession back on their screens, but with further news that filming is set to take place in Norway, there’s plenty for fans to be excited for with Succession’s upcoming fourth season.
