Capcom’s showcase might not have been the longest of this year’s Summer Game Fest, but it still had a lot to show for its upcoming games.
Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak
Opening the show was a new look at the upcoming Monster Hunter Rise expansion, Sunbreak, which is launching on June 30. A new trailer for the game showcased some of the battles between players and beasts, including some familiar sights for long-time fans of the franchise.
The Jungle map will be making a return, having last been seen in Monster Hunter: Frontiers with a new refreshed look which will adapt over time as players make their way through the story. Also making a return will be Gore Magala from Monster Hunter 4 and Espinas from Monster Hunter Frontiers.
Lastly, there were details of what fans can expect post-launch. Free title upgrades will be coming to the game, with the first planned to launch this August bringing Lucent Nargacuga and the Forlorn Arena to the game. More updates are planned for Autumn and Winter 2022 as well as early 2023. Details on those updates are being kept under wraps for now with more details to be released soon. As a final announcement, there was confirmation that a free demo is available now for players to download ahead of launch.
Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak will be available on Nintendo Switch and PC from June 30.
Capcom Spotlight
The Capcom Spotlight Corner gave some quick updates on upcoming releases
- More information about the game modes and roster of Street Fighter 6 will be coming later this year,
- Capcom Fighting Collection will include Red Earth, marking the first time the game will be playable outside arcades, when it is released on June 24
- Capcom Arcades 2nd Stadium will include more than 30 games, which will each also be available for individual purchase when the collection is released this July
Exoprimal
Up next was a look at the team-based dinosaur futuristic adventure Exoprimal. A new trailer introduced fans to Leviathan, an AI developed by Aibius Corp who serves as a guide and overseer during the game’s 5v5 task-driven story. In this Dino Survival mode, players will work with their squad to complete various tasks, such as eliminating a particular dinosaur or collecting energy, before the opposing team.
Along with this new trailer, there was a more in-depth look at some of the details. These included a preview of two different types of Exosuits as well as more of the task and enemy types that players will face with their squad members. It was then announced that the game would be holding a Closed Network Test later this year. Players who wish to register for this test can do so via the game’s website.
Exoprimal is currently in development for a 2023 release on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC.
Dragon’s Dogma
With the 10th Anniversary of Dragon’s Dogma taking place this year, many fans had hoped for the long-awaited announcement of a sequel. Sadly, this didn’t come but what did was the announcement that a special “digital event” video would be coming on June 16.
Resident Evil
Closing out the showcase was a look at what is to come across the Resident Evil franchise.
The first set of announcements came from the Resident Evil Village team. October 28, 2022, will see the launch of the Winters Expansion pack. This new pack features a new story, Shadows of Rose – which sees an adult Rose Winters take centre stage, the introduction of Chris Redfield, Karl Heisenberg and Lady Dimitrescu to The Mercenaries: Additional Orders mode and the addition of a 3rd Person Mode for the main story.
This expansion will also be available as part of the Gold Edition, alongside the main game which will also be launching in October. Also launching in October will be the long-awaited Resident Evil RE:Verse, the 6v6 deathmatch multiplayer featuring characters from across the Resident Evil series.
Next was an update from the team working on the newly confirmed Resident Evil 4 Remake. Set to launch on March 24, 2023, this new version of the game will retell the fan favourite story, in which Racoon City survivor Leon S. Kennedy has been sent to a mysterious town in Europe to retrieve the kidnapped daughter of the US President.
Among the changes players can expect to see is a redesign of the Ganados, the human victims of the Las Plagas parasite.
Finally, there was an update for fans of the most recent Resident Evil releases. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S updates for Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Resident Evil 2 Remake and Resident Evil 3 Remake are available now. These updates will add 4K resolution, ray tracing and 3D audio to the games. Those who own the titles on PC will receive the updates via a patch.
