Ethan and Maya Hawke will star together as father and daughter in a new Beatlemania romantic comedy.
The real-life father-daughter duo will star in Andrew Stanton’s new film Revolver. The romantic comedy focuses on Jane (Maya Hawke), an Alaskan teenager who is determined to lose her virginity to none other than George Harrison.
The screenplay is based on a real-life event, where the Fab Four were forced to make an unexpected stop in the city of Anchorage, Alaska, while on their way to Japan in June 1966. The reason why they made the unexpected layover is to this day still unclear. A few theories say that there was a malfunction in their plane, forcing them to do an emergency landing in the Alaskan city. Other people say it was because of a typhoon threatening their journey. Either way, as soon as the rumor got out, thousands of teenage girls rushed to the hotel where The Beatles were temporarily staying in the city to get a glimpse (or maybe more) of them.
When reality ends, that’s when fiction begins. As the band is staying in town, Revolver sees Jane on a mission to accomplish her dream: losing her virginity to the Beatles’ guitarist George Harrison. Ethan Hawke will play Jane’s father. It’s still unclear, though, whether he’s going to support his daughter as she tries to make her dream come true, or if he’ll try to get in the way to stop it.
Andrew Stanton, who has won two Oscars for Finding Nemo and WALL-E, will direct the father-daughter duo on screen, while Kate Trefry, who worked with Maya Hawke on Stranger Things, will write the screenplay.
Even though she is the daughter of Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman, Stranger Things is what shot Maya to her worldwide fame, and she’s currently filming the fourth season of the Netflix show in Atlanta, Georgia. The actress will also grace our screens in Gia Coppola’s Mainstream, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival. Many will also remember her in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time in Hollywood. She also worked with her father on the SHOWTIME miniseries Ethan Hawke wrote and starred in, The Good Lord Bird.
There still isn’t a release date for the film, but the production is likely to begin in the spring of next year.
