Post-hardcore band Apherium hail from Yeovil. Despite being unsigned, they have received support from the likes of Scuzz TV and Kerrang Radio, while playing shows in the Midlands and South West helped expand their audience. They will release their EP, Embrace the Fall That Brought Us Here at the end of February. It is a record containing riffs that pack a punch combined with an energetic, hardworking attitude.
The opener, ‘Resolve’ sounds like a homage to math-rock, but Apherium have added their own twist with some heart-racing double kick drums and a catchy chorus of ‘I finally feel alive / And I’m starting to love again”. The band have a knack of creating big choruses and hooks, evident on recent single ‘Embrace’.

A gritty track with downtuned guitars, it has all the ingredients for a catchy rock song. The added screams show diversity and bring out the heaviness, giving off an Underoath vibe. Finally, ‘Ever Present’ rounds the EP off on an energetic note. Although it can feel like paint-by-numbers post hardcore, the chorus is infectious and is reminiscent of Midgar. It leaves you wanting more from this promising band.
Although the EP isn’t perfect, there is enough originality to keep people interested and with the coverage they are getting, we should hear more of Apherium in the future.
