Emily in Paris is set to return to our screens just in time for Christmas, and fans around the world are eagerly anticipating its special brand of escapism. The new trailer for season three leads us one step closer.

Picking up from season two’s dramatic cliffhanger, the season three trailer reveals Emily (Lily Collins) is now working for two rival marketing companies. Enemies Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) and Madeline (Kate Walsh) are locked in a corporate fight to the death, with Emily battling on both fronts. It seems this can only end in disaster, but would we expect anything less from our endearing, oh-so-chaotic protagonist?

Season two’s delicious love triangle is also set to develop this season with Emily attempting to navigate the minefield that is her love life. In the trailer, Sylvie raises the question of whether we’re “really here to just love one person” as Emily grapples with the decision between her two love interests. With so much at stake and multiple hearts hanging in the balance, the pressure is clearly on. Still, Emily’s suitors, swoon-worthy neighbour Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) and English heartthrob Alfie (Lucien Laviscount), make this an enviable task.

The burden of choice is the overarching theme of the upcoming season, with the argument that “not choosing is still choosing,” posed by Emily’s French teacher in the trailer. However, to expect only “existential angst” (in Emily’s words) from this season would be a mistake. With Emily’s trademark flashy outfits, the brilliant cast of supporting characters, and landscapes to die for, season three is set to be just as lively as the previous two.

When filming wrapped in September, Collins shared a post thanking her team for “supporting, uplifting, and encouraging endlessly,” and fans will agree that uplifting is the perfect word to describe the energy of the show. Despite the chaos of Emily’s life, joy is ever-present: the energetic culmination of the trailer with its soaring music and clips of Emily with her found family emanates euphoria and hammers this feeling home. Emily’s assertion that she is “all about life” is clear throughout, and fans can expect season three to continue exploring the towering peaks and deepest troughs of love, life and adventure.

Emily in Paris releases on Netflix on 21 December 2022, so get your popcorn ready. We predict binge-watching is in store this Christmas.
