Dundee Rep Theatre will reopen with their new show Wings Around Dundee after being closed to the public for 18 months.

The production is a magical-realist adventure that takes audiences on a journey of discovery through the streets of Dundee and encourages them to reconsider stories we take for granted. It will take place from 7-25 September.

The show will be performed by the Dundee Rep Ensemble, and the cast includes Ewan Donald, Barrie Hunter, Danielle Jam, Irene Macdougall, Benjamin Osugo, Ann Louise Ross and Emily Winter.

It is written by John McCann and directed by Finn den Hertog. Andrew Wasylyk is the composer and sound designer, while Jen McGinley is the set and costume designer.

The theatre’s upcoming programme also includes Scottish Dance Theatre’s Antigone, Interrupted from 7-30 October, and a double-bill of Amethyst and TuTuMucky on 29 and 30 October. In addition, the National Theatre of Scotland’s The Enemy will open at the Rep from 12-16 October.

Rep Studios, the Rep’s online streaming programme, is set to continue and includes showings of Sinder and the second chapter of Every Map Has A Scale from 8 October to 31 December.

The season will close with Dundee Rep and Noisemaker’s adaptation of A Christmas Carol, which will run from 27 November to 31 December.

Artistic director Andrew Panton said to The List: “What an amazing feeling to be welcoming audiences back into the Rep after such a long period. Our autumn season celebrates the work of our two ensembles with world premieres and new films capturing their collaborations over the past months in our communities.

“We also continue working with the most exciting freelance theatre, dance and music artists who have consistently innovated whilst our theatre has been closed.”

Tickets for the performances can be purchased from Dundee Rep’s website.
