Rizzle Kicks - Traveller's Chant Official Video

I’m not going to use the excuse that I enjoy this album because it brings back old memories of a younger, naïve year eight version of myself who hadn’t discovered ‘good’ music yet. I bought this album last year. There is maybe a slightly sentimental reason that I hold so tight of this CD but it’s also difficult to deny the feelings of instant easiness and happiness when hearing the beginning of those fabulous trumpets.

Whether a fan or not, when this album came out in 2011 it was probably difficult to avoid hearing the lead singles bouncing around on Radio 1, TV, or for me being shared around at school. I loved it when it came out but as I grew up and did discover the types of music that I love today, Jordan and Harley got pushed to the back of my mind. Last year I saw the CD in a shop and my love came flooding back because the songs are still as fun and clever (predominantly) as before.

“Whoops I’m in trouble!” Have I betrayed my current ‘indie’ self? Well, who cares? This album is brilliant, makes me happy and contains some lyrics which simply tell a truth about teenage tribulations and even a subtle nod to Blur’s Coffee and TV in ‘Traveller’s Chant’.

“We got nothing to hide/ buzzing the vibe/ wanna have a wonderful time.”
