Feeling Myself // Nicki Minaj ft Beyoncé
‘Feeling Myself’ is a track released in 2014 by Nicki Minaj featuring Beyoncé. The track itself was highly anticipated, but when the video to accompany the song was leaked, the Internet broke.
It’s hardly surprising to find Beyoncé being a crowd pleaser (even the President of the United States considers her a fave). However this song was heard far and wide, inspiring those of all ages to “feel themselves”.
One of the key themes throughout the song is self-love, or “feeling yourself”. “Feeling yourself” is a term that refers to the feeling of pride, admiration, and acceptance in oneself. Though it’s not always evident in the lyrics, both of the female role models through their work or social media platforms distribute the importance of self love, and empowering other people around you.
The lyrics “Cause we dope girls, we flawless” is about empowering themselves, and it’s also a quote from Beyoncé’s ‘Flawless’. These feminist idols have created a work of art without even realising.
Nicki Minaj has worked her way up to be the top female rapper in the industry (sorry Iggy Azalea fans), and Beyoncé has the nickname ‘Queen B’ for a reason. These two legendary queens have made a track that is my utter guilty pleasure. Remember, feel yourself.
