Devcom is making waves in the video gaming industry with its latest initiative aimed at enhancing diversity and inclusion. The renowned gaming conference organizer has launched new scholarship programs designed to support and retain underrepresented and underestimated game developers, thanks to partnerships with international organizations such as the Global Game Jam, the International Game Developers Association (IGDA), and IndieGameBusiness®.

The Scholarship Programs are designed to create more opportunities for game developers facing barriers to attending major industry events like the Devcom Developer Conference and Gamescom, scheduled for August 18-25 in Cologne. Scholarship recipients will enjoy a range of benefits, including free passes to Devcom (August 18-20) and Gamescom B2B (August 21-23), online briefings, on-site networking opportunities, and continuous support before and during the events. The program’s mission focuses on recruiting and retaining qualified candidates from diverse backgrounds, particularly those from globally marginalized and minority communities.

“We have always had a commitment to fostering a welcoming atmosphere for all,” said Robin Hartmann, Senior PR & Partnership Manager at Devcom, expressing his enthusiasm. “This step professionalizes Devcom and Gamescom’s ongoing efforts to nurture a sense of safety and belonging among our global community. By expanding opportunities for attendance at our events, we are enriching the industry with fresh perspectives while ensuring its long-term sustainability and growth.”

The Scholarship Programs aim to create a more inclusive industry by collaborating with various international organizations, universities, associations, and companies to extend their reach. These partners will help create and distribute application forms, align their selection processes with the main program’s goals, and potentially provide financial support or sponsor on-site events.

The first partners—IGDA, Global Game Jam, and IndieGameBusiness®—will help broaden the program’s impact and support their communities by offering these scholarship opportunities. As more partners join, the program’s impact is expected to grow, with detailed application information available on Devcom’s website and partner channels. Organizations interested in becoming partners for the 2024 program can apply until June 27 using the Partner Application Form.

Devcom, known for hosting Europe’s largest community-based event for games industry professionals, continues to lead with its core values of diversity, inclusion, and sustainability. The Devcom Developer Conference #ddc2024 will take place from August 18-20 at the Confex on Koelnmesse Fairgrounds, Cologne, followed by gamescom from August 21-23.
