Fly Me To The Moon – Selene Mortimore

Frank Sinatra Fly Me To The Moon Live 1965

Frank Sinatra always reminds me of my grandparents, and the many parties they have. I remember being little and watching my grandmother and grandfather dancing together, it was like watching a film. Growing up with Sinatra I’ve come to really appreciate his music, and he has a special place in my record collection. It’s difficult to say what song I would define as my favourite- but F’ly Me To The Moon’ has to be the one I play the most.

‘Fly Me To The Moon’ is a beautiful, smooth jazz song. The intro is soft but melodic, and it makes you want to dance or at the very least sway around. It’s not secret that Frank Sinatra had an incredible voice and there’s no bad recording, but in ‘Fly Me To The Moon’ his voice is particularly wonderful, it’s so smooth and strong that it’s impossible to not fall in love with the song. His voice perfectly compliments the lyrics that can’t be described in any other way than beautiful ‘fly me to the moon, and let me see what Spring is like on Jupiter and Mars’ is one of my all time favourite lyrics, it’s romantic and poetic, and makes for such a good line.

While there’s no such thing as a bad Sinatra song, ‘Fly Me To The Moon’ is a particularly great Sinatra song.
