Shakespeare’s Globe has announced the cast for the newest Playing Shakespeare with Deutsche Bank production, the Globe’s flagship project for state secondary schools.
Directed by Diane Page (Julius Caesar, Globe tour 2022), the project will offer over 26,000 free tickets to pupils aged 11-16 at London and Birmingham state schools. Subsidised tickets will also be offered to schools nationwide. In addition, workshops on The Tempest for 12-15-year-olds will run alongside the project, which will include practical drama activities and games.
Public performances of The Tempest, which has been created especially for young people, will run from 18 March until 15 April.
The cast includes Aoife Gaston and David Hartley, playing Stephano and Prospero respectively, who both return to Playing Shakespeare after their performances in the 2022 production of Macbeth.
The production will also star Azan Ahmed as Ferdinand, Charlie Cameron as Ariel, David Ijiti as Gonzalo, Emma Manton as Alonso, Lloyd McDonagh as Sebastian, Archie Rush as Caliban, Bea Svistunenko as Miranda/Trinculo, and Zheng Xi Yong as Antonio.
Director Diane Page said: “It’s really fantastic to be back at the Globe and to direct The Tempest with our exciting team of actors and creatives. With the theatre full of young people, the atmosphere as close to the original audience 400 years ago, what could be more energising.”
Ticket prices range from £25 to £62 for gallery seats, and are priced at £5 for a standing ticket.
