A digital performance and multiple films will be streamed online as part of Border Crossings’ ORIGINS Festival this summer.
The programme will feature a reworked digital adaptation of Madeline Sayet’s Where We Belong, which highlights internal racism in the UK. The performance was first shown at Shakespeare’s Globe as part of ORIGINS 2019, and will be streamed online from 14 June to 11 July.
Border Crossings’ film Hidden Histories, which follows Indigenous travellers to London, will stream for free alongside Where We Belong.
The programme will also include a showing of the Australian documentary film Etched in Bone, and three short films by Mongolian and Mayan artists presented in partnership with the Open University.
The festival celebrates Indigenous arts and culture across the world, and will offer audiences the chance to appreciate the impact of Indigenous culture on our own lives.
It follows the company’s series of online literature events, called ORIGINS Writers, that brought together acclaimed writers.
Border Crossings’ Artistic Director said: “As this year’s ORIGINS programme continues to emerge, it feels particularly appropriate that we can use an innovative streaming approach to re-visit Where We Belong, the big hit of the 2019 Festival.
“The show is all about travels and exchanges between London and Native America, and now, having shown it at Shakespeare’s Globe, we’re able to show a new version direct from an empty theatre in Washington DC.”
