Bolton Octagon Reveals New Warm-Up Season

The Bolton Octagon has unveiled its “warm-up” season that will begin from the end of this month, following its recently completed refurbishment.

The theatre is set to open on 26 May with a new play entitled See You At the Octagon. It is written by Becky Prestwich and is inspired by stories from people in and around Bolton.

In May and June, audiences will be able to see five brand new plays as part of the theatre’s popular ‘First Bite’ play reading series, and Justin Moorhouse will present a night of live comedy featuring local comedians on 11 June.

The theatre are collaborating with the Muslim Arts and Culture Festival to commission three artists of Muslim heritage to create a range of digital work, will be available to watch online from 14 June.

There will also be a live music performance from Mina Anwar and The Dave Bintley Trio on 5 June, and a showing of Showstopper! The Improvised Musical on 19 June.

The warm-up season precedes the theatre’s opening show The Hound of the Baskervilles, which is an adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic novel. It will run from 1 July to 7 August.

Lotte Wakeham, artistic director at the Bolton Octagon, said “I’m thrilled to be working with many exceptional artists across this season both on stage and off, some of whom are established names but many of whom are up-and-coming and represent Bolton and Greater Manchester talent at its finest.”
